In early 2011, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 would have support for ARM microprocessors. This is a great step since many mobile devices such as tablets utilize this architecture. Since then, several milestones in their development have been reached, and the OS is making its way toward beta testing. Both 32 and 64 bit milestones have been achieved. Windows 8 will likely be released some time in 2012. Their user interface may deviate from the traditional look and feel and have several optimizations for tablet use. It will be interesting to see Microsoft’s take on how tablet computing should be.
