Open vm tools on ubuntu

Occasionally you may have problems compiling the vmware tools on ubuntu. Not to worry. Ubuntu linux has an open source version of vmware tools that can be installed with the aptitude package manager.

apt-get install open-vm-tools

This will install the open source vm tools that can be used to communicate with the vmware hypervisor and allow for seamless integration of the Ubuntu virtual machine.
